Free Spirit Sovereign road bike I bought off Craigslist. My legs ache like a mother. And it's a beautiful feeling.

I went a bit large on the frame (can't have everything you want on a used bike!) and it's rather heavy, but I'm lovin' the way it rides.

Once I replace the vengeful old seat, it will be a sweet ride indeed.

A fact made apparent on a quest for brunch/late breakfast. Now waiting for Davis Noodle City to open. This fine establishment serves 'homemade' noodles in dishes based on Taiwanese recipes. I've read purely good reviews on this place, so I hope it doesn't disappoint!

King Hall, anon

Featured above is the main, and for now, the only, building of UC Davis' law school, colloquially referred to as King Hall, too. I took this picture on July 4, when I had gone up to visit the town with my parents.

In less than 5 days ("less" intentional. Don't you hate my little grammar lessons and commentary?), I'll be embarking on my first solo drive to Northern California to begin a hectic scramble to get a new life and a new home in order before school begins just 2-3 days later. Understandably, I'm excited and scared. Unlike many of my colleagues, who were able to attend admitted students' events and plan their spring and summer schedules, I was admitted off the waitlist in June (yay splitter). I quit work less than a month ago and it's been nonstop stress and manual labor since then. Now it's time to put that all behind me -- perhaps the burden I must bear for screwing around in undergrad -- and prepare to work hard and make the most of my experience... Something I didn't do either of at UCLA... Something I deeply regret.

And so I begin anew in many ways. I've already mentioned on my new, less personal, more issue-oriented blog that I like to symbolically renew and refresh myself with new blogs, fresh starts. This blog has fallen by the wayside as of late, and the few posts I have made in the last several months were admittedly lacking in quality. So I'll be editing and cleaning this thing up.

Best of luck to anyone else beginning school, including all my new 1L classmates and especially my new apartmentmates!

Pete Sampras, 14-time Grand Slam champion and owner of the greatest second serve and arguably the greatest first serve in the history of the sport, showing off his sk1llz while warming up. This is also a backlog entry: the picture was taken at the first night session of the LA Tennis Open, which featured an exhibition match between Sampras and Marat Safin. Safin's retiring this year... Sad for tennis -- he was one of its greatest personalities.

I want a radar gun

Ray after hitting an "85" mph serve as measured by this booth at the LA Tennis Open. I place the figure in quotes because I've been on the receiving end of Ray's first serve many times, and I assure you it's well over 85. Our guess is that the device measured the speed of the ball as it decelerated into the net, especially since there was no manual operation.

When I pulled into my parking spot this morning, I saw this in my peripheral vision and thought, "oh no, did someone leave their dog in the car?" Pretty sweet, really. I have get myself a big cat to place in my passenger seat too.

Above is the aftermath of a big, organized pillow fight that took place in front of the Art Institute of Chicago. I looked it up afterward and saw that this is a nationwide 'cause'. Funny thing is, right before I reached this scene, I saw a group of young people holding pillows and laughing while heading south on Michigan Ave. (I was heading north). Sucks to be the people cleaning this mess up.
